2 STUDENTS BIRDING

CMS BIRDING CENTER

HOME

Welcome to the Centreville Middle School Birding Center. Here you will find species information, data, research, and activities. The site is maintained by students at CMS.  We are well known for our activities in the birding world, and we are the middle school Youth Division Champions from the World Series of Birding, with 150 species located in 24 hour period.

The focus of our program is data collection and research.  We collect data for the MD/DC Breeding Bird Atlas Project, our local Feederwatch, the Great Backyard Bird Count, and the Audubon Christmas Bird Count.  Many of the students conduct ornithological research projects, and a number of our students have received recognition for their research accomplishments.

We also develop data and ideas that can help shape our rapidly growing county.  Birds are bio-indicators which help us keep our finger on the environmental pulse of our local ecosystems.
