ACTIVITIES & PROGRAMS
NORTHBAY
Northbay goes on during May. Northbay is a week long camp for students in the 6th grade. Northbay is a great program for the 6th grade yet it costs a lot, so be careful. every day there's a full schedule of activities to do at Northbay, such as; zip line, giant swing, game room, gym, rock wall, and more! And the highlight of the night is always "Northbay Live". What's Northbay Live? to find out this and more about other activities, see the Northbay PowerPoint (top). And for even more information, check out the 6th grade team website.
GEOGRAPHY BEE
The Geography Bee is a fun competition, though if you do good enough, it can be taken to a major scale. The Geography Bee is like common spelling bees, but instead of spelling words, you have to name worldwide places such as landmarks and continents. It all starts out at the classroom. The winner of the classroom competition competes for the grade. The winner of the grade competes for the school. And the winner of the school competes for the state to be the all time winner!
SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL
Are you in band? If yes, than this is a competition for you. Solo & Ensemble starts in January. Solo & Ensemble is a school wide competition held here in Maryland. To compete in this competition you need a group with 1-5 members with musical skills. Then you all must play the same song, all together with your instruments. After you have performed at your school, the judges will choose someone to compete for the state. And whoever wins that will win some big prizes. Anyone can enter.
Independent Study
You may remember this from Kennard Elementary, and now you can do it at CMS too. Incase you don't know what Independent Study is, here's what it's about; Independent Study is about students participating in doing a project, that is not graded, on their own. And close to the end of the year, the students get to show their project to everyone else in the school. This project is available for anyone to do, although it is optional. and the project can be done on anything that you want, whether it's on "bananas" or "the far reaches the universe and beyond", it's still acceptable. the presentations of everyone's projects will be held in May
