Dear Allen Say,

I recently read your story, “Grandfather’s Journey” with my class. It was a wonderful story to read.  After I read the story I visited an internet site about you and read your biography. I think it is really neat that you have become such a success even though you have faced many difficult events throughout you life such as, war and poverty. You taught me the lesson that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. It is very interesting to me that you illustrate your book before you write the words. You must be very creative. I was wondering if you felt sad when you wrote “Grandfather’s Journey”, since it was really about you and your grandfather. I am also wondering if you ever get frustrated when you want to write a book and you cannot come up with an idea. I have not read any of your other stories, but I plan to. The stories I am interested in reading are “Tea With Milk” and “A River Dream.” I hope I will enjoy reading those stories as much as I enjoyed reading “Grandfather’s Journey.” Thank you for writing books for children to enjoy.

Your friend,

Stephanie Wishart
