Maryland Web Quest

 

Suggested Time: 2 - 45 minutes sessions

2.A.1.  Locate places and describe the human and physical characteristics of those

places.

4.A.3.  Identify how individuals and groups contributed to the political system.

 

Maryland Technology Literacy Standards for Students:

3.A.1.b   Explain how selected technology tools are being used to support learning

3.A.1.d   Describe how technology tools are used to collect information

3.C.1.f    Use various electronic information retrieval sources to obtain information on a topic (R/ELA4.4.A.7.b)

 

Behavioral Objective:

Students will be able to obtain information about Maryland’s history and geography by completing a webquest.

 

Resources Needed:

computer lab/ classroom computers, internet access, Microsoft Word, 1 copy of KWL per child, pencils

 

Links to Prior Knowledge:

Ability to log on to the computer, read to follow directions

 

Procedures:

  1. Students will work on a KWL chart about Maryland. They should complete the K (know) section and the W (want to know) section independently.
  2. Students will share their KWL chart with a partner for 3 minutes.
  3. Students will log on to the computer.
  4. Students will open the Maryland Web Quest.pps document.
  5. Students will work to answer the questions on the webquest by clicking on the Web Quest and then the links for each question. Students should fill in the worksheet as they go. The worksheet can be accessed by clicking on Maryland Web Quest Worksheet. Students should save this document to their numbers.
  6. After students have completed the webquest, the teacher will go over the correct answers to the questions.

Follow-Up:

The teacher can set up a computer center where students can explore their favorite question from the webquest.

Fill in the “L” column of the KWL chart as a class.

 

Accommodations:

Students may work with a partner or in groups.  Verbatim reading or reader software of Webquest may be necessary.

Limit number of questions required, Limit number of counties for question 5

 

Extensions: 

            Follow up activities and students can write their own questions in Word for classmates to answer
