PBIS @ QACHS
“Pride of the Eastern Shore!!!”
What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports.
This program gives guidelines and a framework for schools to develop unique interventions to positively and proactively address student behavior.
With PBIS, we teach the students expected behavior in all school settings and acknowledge appropriate behavior.
Teachers need to take a preventative approach to reach students before behavior escalates.
One goal of this positive approach to teaching appropriate behavior is to have 4 to 5 positive interactions between teachers and students for every negative interaction.
PBIS is a data driven program, as behavior data is used to help plan interventions.
PBIS is being implemented at QACHS for the first time.

Components of PBIS
For PBIS to work effectively, several pieces must be in place.
The program requires that we make expectations clear for the students, teach them the expectations, and acknowledge when they meet those expectations.
Teaching the students these expectations is done through the use of the classroom matrix as well as teachable moments.
Acknowledging student behavior when these expectations are met will be done through Classroom Incentives, Positive Postcards, and QACHS Recognition.
