Who do I call when my child is out sick?  What do I do when we are going on vacation?  What happens if they come in late?  Who do I ask about schedules?   Do these sound like questions that you’ve asked yourself when it comes to your child’s attendance, schedules, and grades?  Well mom and dad we’ve got the answers here in the guidance department!  Here are our top  Q’s and A’s for you to look at if you ever are wondering the same thing that quite a few other parents are wondering………

Q:  Where does my child take their sick note?

A:  They just need to stop by the guidance office and see Ms. Hartmann during homeroom to drop off their sick note and receive an excused slip to show to their teachers.

Q:  Who can I talk to about scheduling questions?

A:  You would simply call Mrs. Schrecongost, School Counselor, to ask any scheduling questions or discuss any scheduling concerns.

Q:  What do I do when we are going on a family vacation during school time?

A:   All you need to do is send a note to the front office, addressed to Mr. Kenna, informing us that you will be out of town.  Please include the specific dates so it can be marked            accordingly in our attendance system.

Q:  How long can my child miss before it counts as a half day absence or a whole day absence?

A:   When your child misses less than an hour of school, it simply counts as a tardy for the day. If your child misses more than an hour of class time, it is counted as a half day.  If they 3 out of 5 periods, it is considered a whole day.

Q:  What does “UND” mean?

A:   “UND” is an absence code that simply means that we have not received any documentation stating why he/ she was absent from class.

Q:  What does “EDU” mean?

A:   “EDU” refers to an educational absence.  It is very rare that this happens, but anytime your child is pulled from class due to an activity in school, ex. band or choir practice,  SGA, testing, or for a small group field trip, it is not counted against them in their attendance record.  However, they are responsible for getting the work that they have missed during that time period.

Q:  What is the difference between tardy and late?pirate

A:  The difference between the two is just a matter of the amount of time your child has missed in that specific class.  Tardy means that they have missed less than 30 minutes of a class.  If  they are marked late it means that they have missed more than 30 minutes of that classes allotted time.

Q:  Will I have PE and Art together?

A:  The answer to that is Yes and No.  With the schedule for the 2010-2011 school year each student will have two enrichments at the same time.  Our schedules will alternate on an A-Day and   B- Day schedule.  You may have PE on A-Day and Art on B-Day, but you could also have Computer Applications on A-Day and General Music on B-Day.  It all depends on how your schedule is laid out.  Now, if you participate in Band or Choir they run all year long, and you alternate the other enrichment class by the semester.  So, back to the question at hand, you will have all enrichment classes, it just depends on your specific scheduling as to which you participate in when.

Q: Will I have one enrichment all year round?

A:  If you have chosen to participate in Band or Choir you will have that same enrichment all year long.  They are an all year enrichment course.  You will have another enrichment on the opposite day since we will have the A-Day/B-Day schedule.
